The Wild Remembers
Picture taken as a snapshot from my Choice Magazine Article The Call of the Wild Wolf *
I recently had the joy of joining choice, the magazine of professional coaching podcast to explore the intersection of ecology and coaching—and how the wisdom of nature can guide us back to wholeness.
This was based on my recent article the Call of the Wild Wolf written for Choice on their special issue on coaching and climate consciousness.
Drawing from my doctoral research on ecocentrism in coach education, I shared stories and practices inspired by rewilding—an invitation not to learn something new, but to remember what we’ve forgotten. Like the wolves that restored harmony to Yellowstone, our own wild instincts and inner knowing are still alive within us—waiting to return.
In this conversation, we explored:
Rewilding as a path back to balance
The intelligence of the heart and body
Practical ways to reconnect with our senses—even in the middle of a city
Storytelling as a sacred, ancient practice for healing and connection

My week's reflection includes a poem—a distillation of this very conversation, as it moved through me and wove itself into verse. In addition, a Leadership Apothecary practice is included, which was also offered as a free gift for all the Choice readers.
The Wild Remembers
The wild…
is not lost.
Like the wolf,
it waits—
quiet, patient—
in the breath
before thought,
in the beat
beneath the bone.
I remember the mountain hush,
the scent of milk and roses
wrapped in my childhood,
held in the hollows
of my body.
That girl—
barefoot, breathing the sky—
she still lives in my skin.
But we climbed floors.
Sixth.
Thirty-second.
A little further
from the soil.
A little closer
to forgetting.
But the wild waits.
It waits in your blood.
In the dreams of your cells.
In the mitochondria—
those ancient ones
still singing
inside your skin.
Rewilding…
is not a doing.
It’s a remembering.
The bark under your fingers.
The ache for real food.
The taste of wind
on a lip
that forgot how to name it.
We are nature.
We are not separate.
We are the field—
the beat of the earth
dressed in skin.
Close your eyes.
Ask:
What is wild in me today?
What color does your longing wear?
Maybe…
a yellow buttercup,
leaning left—
soft resistance
to the gravity
of forgetting.
The world speaks
in archetypes
and quiet invitations.
Ask again:
What does your wild heart want today?
Eat food that remembers the sun.
Sleep like your dreams are sacred.
Let your body lead—
it knows the way back
better than your mind ever could.
And tell your story.
Around fires.
On rooftops.
In rooms filled with strangers
who ache to be seen.
Tell it not to impress—
but to connect.
To commune.
To remember.
Because the wild…
is not gone.
It is not broken.
It is not extinct.
Like the wolf—
it is waiting
to return.
So I ask you—
Will you answer the call?
As a gift, I’ve also shared a free practice for connecting with the Wild Wolf Archetype—supporting coaches and leaders in reconnecting with instinct, intuition, and inner wisdom.
